Ever wondered what it would be like in a real life General Hospital? You may just get your wish. New York Post is reporting that ABC is in the planning stages of developing a real life “General Hospital” as a daytime show in the new year. The show would be filmed in a Los Angeles hospital with real doctors and nurses. The show would follow the private lives of those working in the hospital.

While an official is saying that it is in the early pilot stages, the untitled hospital show could either seek syndication or cable if it gets picked up.

ABC Daytime has the scripted daytime soap, “General Hospital,” which is set to air into its 50th year in 2013. The lineup also includes “The Chew,” a cooking series, as well as “KATIE,” a talk show hosted by Katie Couric. IF the show does go into syndication, ABC would have to make room in its daytime schedule.

Umm…and this is the fan and not the professional talking with this last line…but WHY would we need a real life “GH” when we already have a “GH?” ABC, stop it with this tomfoolery right now!

Thoughts?

  1. Why make a real life General Hospital, bring back All My Children and One Life To Live.. ABC just doesn’t get it,, General Hospital’s good rating prove we want our soaps , not a stupid cooking show and another talk show…
Someone needs to fire Anne Sweeny.

  4. ABC makes the cast and crews of All My Children move across the country for the sake of their jobs and fans, then they blindside and fire them only 9 months after they made them move. Then they have the balls to suggest that people are not interested in soap operas which brings to the cancellation of One Life To Live as well. Their solutions are “The Chew”, with the sexual harrassing Mario Batali, and “The Revolution”, which wasn’t intended to be broadcasted at all, let alone to last for 6 months, and “Hatie” Couric. ABC claimed to respect iconic programs and yet they cowardly and stupidly cancelled 2 of the most prized and time honored soap operas that have made an impact on the American society for over 40 years; through war, a depression, a recession, all while entertaining and enlightening thousands if not millions of people to become better than they are. I would rather watch the real deal soap operas than a cheesy, unclassy, stool stained reality tv show. So, ABC/Disney, you can take your real-life GH to the nearest porto potty, drop it down the hole, and set fire to it because there is no way, at all, under any circumstances whatsoever that we, the people, are going to be tuning, DVRing, recording, or burning to DVD any given one of your sorry excuses for programs until you, or somebody else, restores and returns all of Agnes Nixon’s legal rights to HER creations, puts AMC and OLTL back on the air where they will continue to entertain and enlighten us long after we have forgotten the damages that you and your company have wrought upon us.

  6. I would not want to be treated at a hospital that had cameras following their doctors and nurses around for a show. Maybe if it were a documentary…but not for ‘entertainment’. I doubt HIPAA laws would even allow it.

  7. No, no, no more…please. Looks like the execs at ABC have truly lost their minds. So VERY fed up with the tired parade of talk/lifestyle/reality type of programming!! It seems to me that I am not the only one. Television has REALLY declined over the years in my opinion. My enjoyment came in on daytime programming. I sincerely miss my “Love in the Afternoon” shows. One by one, daytime programming has seen it fit to remove our beloved shows and replaced it with can only be called “spinoffs of morning programming”. We see the same TIRED topics from the morning shows regurgitated into the afternoon programming. Now you are going to produce a “reality hospital show”. NOT INTERESTED….not now, not EVER!! Just stop this insanity, ABC. Please, just…stop and listen to what your once loyal viewers are saying. You know how to bring us back…

  8. I’m going to look on the semi-bright side here. IF this article is correct in stating that this project could be picked up by cable or syndication, we soapers still won’t watch, but there will essentially be no harm done. If, on the other hand, this project REPLACES GH in the ABC Daytime lineup-ABC will have committed a sin to which there can be no forgiveness.

  9. How can so many people hired by ABC be so dumb? This is the question! How many ways must we say that we will not support any programming other than daytime drama (soaps) during this time slot in the afternoons. This is what we want. Give us what we want, or we viewers take our attention else where. It’s that simple; yet they don’t get it. Perhaps they do, but then they would have to admit to error.

  10. NO more reality shows ABC. Don’t you get your decline in ratings!? Soap fans are united in boycotting you except for GH. So this would be just another show we would boycott.
You have spent millions trying to promote and produce new shows. All of that money would of sustained OLTL and AMC for some time and you wouldn’t have this fan boycott. We would of stayed loyal to you and all advertisers.
    ABC has no ‘brains’.

  11. ABC, i will NEVER watch The Chew, or Katie, or any sorry excuse for a reality show that you dredge up to put in place of the two soaps you so stupidly cancelled. I don’t watch anything other than General Hospital the soap now on ABC or Disney, ever since you ripped AMC and OLTL from the air! I was a loyal viewer of both AMC and OLTL for the past 40-plus years….do the right thing and bring those shows back!
