TNT’s “Dallas” is about to give fans a great nod to the history of the original show. It is set to do a “Who Shot J.R.?” exit story for the late Larry Hagman.
TV Guide reported that J.R. will be shot by an unknown assailant, but unlike last time, he will unfortunately meet his demise. Executive Producer Cynthia Cidre told TV Guide magazine in reference to the story:
“We all felt having J.R. die of natural causes would have been completely inappropriate, not only to the character, but also to Larry Hagman.”
The character of J.R. Ewing will be laid to rest on the March 11th episode, and season two premieres on Monday, January 28th at 9/8c on TNT.

I wish they weren’t doing this. I would have preferred they just said he dropped dead on a Dallas street. Either than or under a hooker.

This is really quite apropos. Brilliant. Totally agree that the legacy that is JR Ewing would go out with this kind of bang, not a whimper. Good stuff, Dallas. Thanks for bringing it and giving JR Ewing the proper send-off, and more importantly, giving Larry Hagman the kind of exit story the man really deserves.

I love this. I so hoped the writers would go with this story to send off such an amazing character and actor. What a touching tribute to the Larry and JR’s legacy. Now, who will it be? Who will have shot JR??
